Greetings Caucus Members, as your incoming President I would like to know your thoughts on how to make The New York Black Librarians Caucus a more responsive and professional organization. One of my immediate goals is to get all members and committees more active. I believe you cannot have a commitment to our Caucus unless we respond to issues and are involved in activities that excite you and make a difference in our profession and the New York community. Therefore, I need your suggestions of relevant projects we can involve ourselves in or issues we should and need to address.

Another primary goal is to invite inactive members to become active again. But first, I need to know what has caused you to become inactive. With that in mind, I will be reaching out to you, one-on-one, to discuss your inactivity & what it will take for you to renew your commitment to, and in some cases your membership in the Caucus. I would also like to expand our membership to include Long Island and Upstate Black librarians. I hope you will be open and honest with me as this process will only work if we work together. We missed many of you at our recent scholarship brunch.
NYBLC has so many talented individuals and the Caucus can thrive and grow if we build on each other’s professional expertise. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

I look forward to working with all of you.

Grace and Peace,

Richard E. Ashby Jr.

President, NYBLC
